Novak Djokovic has said that he hasn’t stepped back on court since he ended his season early in July but that he is planning to play in the Australian Open.

Djokovic was seen at a basketball game in Athens watching the Serbian national team and he then went on to Belgrade. At the game he was quoted as saying, “I’m still injured, and I’m not playing tennis either.”

The Serbian press have reported that Djokovic was in Monte Carlo doing some off-court training and will continue to see doctors in Belgrade. He said that he intends to play the Australian Open and he may add a warm-up event.

The player has been off the court since an elbow injury forced him to withdraw at Wimbledon. Just a few weeks ago he announced the birth of his second child Tara, a girl. He and his wife, Jelena, also have a two-year-old son, Stefan.

Djokovic stressed that while his priorities have changed since he was younger, he does intend to return to the sport, “Now I have different goals. I want to keep playing tennis and try to be the best I can.”

This week it was also confirmed that Andre Agassi will remain his coach next year. Djokovic started working with Agassi in May before the French Open and they worked together for two months before Djokovic ended his season.

Following Wimbledon there were doubts over whether he would retain Agassi as his coach. Agassi was tasked with repairing Djokovic’s form but the player lost in the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon. However, in between he won at Eastbourne, his first title in six months.

While fans may have to wait a while before they see Djokovic back on court, it seems likely that his return is now just a few months away.
