Henry Ponsonby’s horses First Mohican and Who Dares Wins will be running in the 188Bet Chester Cup later today.

Both of the horses are trained by Alan King and they are amongst the 17 runners in the big race on the first day of Chester’s May meeting.

First Mohican, nine-years-old, has been busy on all-weather this season and he will be ridden by Hollie Doyle while Who Dares Wins will be ridden by Tom Marquand and will be returning from a successful period over hurdles.

Speaking ahead of today’s race Ponsonby said, “Who Dares Wins had a light season on the Flat last year, running just three times, but was useful again over hurdles when winning the Gerry Feilden at Newbury and finishing third in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. The Chester Cup has been a target for both these horses for some time.”

Who Dares Wins fared better than First Mohican in the draw with the pair given 7 and 17 respectively.

Ryan Moore will be teaming up with Tony Martin to ride Golden Spear but the jockey will have to perform his best to chart a passage from stall 12. He is the only Irish runner after Dermot Weld failed to declare Zafayan.

The final horse to make the cut, Blakeney Point, was given stall number one.

The owner Dr Marwan Koukash took to Twitter to complain about his fortune after Angel Gabrial was allotted the worst draw of all in stall 19, with Duke of Clarence in 15 and 2014 Chester Cup hero Suegioo in 16.

Last year’s runner-up Nakeeta will be hoping to go one better running from 10 while Hughie Morrison will be watching Fun Mac in stall 13. Luke Morris will ride Sea of Heaven, owned by Sir Mark Prescott, from 14 while Isharah (stall 5) and William of Orange (stall 4) are first and second reserve.
