Following reports that Paris Saint-Germain are close to completing the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco for a fee of around €150 million plus a player, the team’s defender Marquinhos has said that he and his teammates know nothing of the deal.
After the team’s 3 – 0 win over St Etienne on Friday, Marquinhos said that the squad has no idea if Mbappe will be joining. He said, “We are waiting for something official. We still do not know anything. We read things on the internet. We are still waiting though. He is a great player and he had a very good last season. The PSG project is very ambitious and to be ambitious, you need great players, big names.”
It is thought that Lucas Moura could be part of the deal for Mbappe but Marquinhos has said that he hopes he remains at the club as he is a close, talented friend. It is not known if Moura can be persuaded to make the switch, but Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim is said to also be interested in Goncalo Guedes, who was previously set to go to Valencia on a season-long loan.
At first PSG were thought to be reluctant to make an offer for Mbappe as they didn’t want to commit significant funds for another 12 months. However, it is now reported they have decided that it is now or never to sign the player that grew up in the French capital’s suburbs.
Mbappe will have to make a decision about his future by the end of today. Last week he missed a week of training due to injury but he was back with Monaco over the weekend.
In addition to Mbappe, PSG are said to be interested in Monaco’s Fabinho and a deal may be signed before the end of the transfer window.
