It has been reported that Jose Mourinho is looking to sign four top players at Manchester United this summer with Antoine Griezmann the primary target.
Mourinho is also prioritising the signing of a central defender and is considering Michael Keane, Virgil van Dijk and Victor Lindelof. Furthermore, he is looking to sign a central midfielder and a versatile defender who is capable of playing either right or left back.
Mourinho is hoping to significantly strengthen the squad over the summer as he looks to build a team that is capable of putting up a good fight in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Last summer Mourinho made a number of successful signings including Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. It is thought that this summer he has handed chief executive Ed Woodward a similar list of targets.
Griezmann is a priority as Mourinho is looking to address a goal-scoring deficit. This season they scored just 54 in the Premier League, 32 less than top scorers Tottenham Hotspur.
Furthermore, Ibrahimovic, who was the club’s top scorer last season with 28 goals, is facing an uncertain future as he continues to recover from ruptured knee ligaments and he has so far been reserved in discussing his plans.
It was also reported that Wayne Rooney’s 13 years at the club might be coming to an end this summer after he confirmed that he has received offers from other clubs in England and abroad. Last week he said that he has “more or less” decided his future.
United will be offering Michael Carrick, 35, a new one-year contract, but Mourinho is eager to have another option in midfield after allowing Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger to depart during the season.
