Emil Forsberg’s agent has repeated that his client has no wish to stay with RB Leipzig and is looking to take the next step in his career.

Forsberg, 25 years old, was one of the team’s star players in the Bundesliga last season. He helped to set up 22 goals and scored eight of his own as the team finished second in the league behind champions Bayern Munich.

However, while he would be guaranteed to play Champions League football next season if he stayed, and despite the fact that his contract is valid until 2022, the Sweden International has recently been linked with a move to AC Milan as well as Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal.

Last week Oliver Mintzlaff, the CEO of Leipzig, ruled out selling Forsberg, publicly reminded his agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, of Forsberg’s contract length and offered to send him a copy “if he’s forgotten how long Emil is under contract here”.

Mintzlaff said that “it would be negligent” to sell the player at the moment as the team seeks to build upon the success of last season.

However, despite this, when talking to Bild over the weekend, Cetinkaya made it clear that he is prepared to fight for his client.

“I’ve never experienced an arrogant attitude like this,” he said. “I know how long Emil is under contract at Leipzig. And I also know what he owes to the club. But it’s a fact: Emil wants to make the next step in his career.”

So far Forsberg has stayed relatively quiet on the issue. He has described AC Milan as a “fantastic club” and said that they are “an interesting project”. However, in regards to his desire to move he only said, “I had a fantastic time in Leipzig, and my agent will take care of everything else.”
