Antoine Griezmann has said that he believes he is deserving of his nomination for UEFA’s Best Player award. He has been nominated with players such as Ronaldo and Gareth Bale and the winner of the award will be announced later today.

Griezmann scored 29 goals for his club as well as six in games for France at Euro 2016, twice as many as any other player at the tournament.

Earlier this week Griezmann said that the nomination “means I’m on the right track to be among the best. I have to keep going that way, keep working hard and giving joy to people when I play.”

He went on to say that he believes that he deserves the nomination as he had a great season with his club and the national team.

However, there is no guarantee that Griezmann will win the award, especially considering his competition. Ronaldo is favourite to win it after helping Portugal to win Euro 2016 after a sixth consecutive 50 or more goals campaign.

Ronaldo also finished as the Champions League’s top scorer making it one of the best seasons of his career.

Griezmann is also up against Gareth Bale who was Wales’ star man at Euro 2016 as the team made it through to the semi-finals. With Real Madrid he averaged a goal every 92 minutes in La Liga and played an important role in his side’s route to Champions League glory.

Bale has said that it’s a “fantastic honour” and amazing to have been nominated. He went on to say that he owes a huge thanks to all his teammates at both the club and international level. He said that his nomination is a result of his desire to win trophies with his team and country.
