Juventus player Leonardo Bonucci has said no team will relish the prospect of playing them in the Champions League after they knocked out Barcelona.
Juventus won the game 3 – 0 on aggregate after holding Barcelona to a draw at their home stadium last week. Speaking recently Bonucci said, “It’s not about who we don’t want to face because none of the other teams want to face us. Juventus provoke fear in everyone else and now our objective is to reach the final.”
He said that the scoring three times against Barcelona and keeping a clean sheet at Camp Nou shows that they are a “great team”. He said that he believes Juventus should be praised for how they approach every game and that the Champions League victory “is another step for our growth and now every opponent will worry about facing Juventus.”
Juventus has dominated their domestic league since 2011/12 and they look set to win a sixth consecutive Serie A title this season. However, they haven’t performed as well in Europe winning the biggest prize just twice, in 1985 and 1996.
However, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has said that the win over Barcelona is a sign that the team are making progress, “We started growing a few years ago and we need to continue on it. It can’t just stop or plateau after this victory. It’s down to us now, our destiny is in our own hands. When it comes down to who wins the trophy, fate has a hand in that too.”
Juventus have now reached the last four for the second time in three years under boss Massimiliano Allegri. He believes that the team are ready to win the competition, “The self-belief of the team has grown a lot. There are only two players who started tonight who started the final in Berlin. That says a lot of how well the club has recruited. We are desperate to go as far as we can and achieve something extraordinary.”
