Real Madrid will be playing in tonight’s Champions League match against Apoel Nicosia without captain Sergio Ramos’ after he broke his nose over the weekend. The team will also be without Keylor Navas, Gareth Bale and Mateo Kovacic who are all still on the club’s injured list.
Ramos suffered the injury when he stooped for a header and was caught in the face by the boot of Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez during Saturday’s goalless draw. In addition to losing the captain, the result also means that both teams are now ten points behind league leaders Barcelona.
Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid coach, said on Friday that he was hopeful of having his first choice goalkeeper Navas back in the squad soon as well as winger Bale. However, both stayed at home when the team flew out to Cyprus on Monday.

Real Madrid confirmed Ramos’ third broken nose of his career on Sunday but they didn’t mention any expected recovery time. There have been some reports that he could play wearing a protective facial mast in next Saturday’s La Liga game at home to Malaga. However, it seems more likely that he will be back in action for the trip to Athletic Bilbao on December 2nd.
Ramos tweeted a photo thanking fans for their support and said that he would be back in action as soon as possible.
There were reports that he cried tears of frustration in the Wanda Metropolitano dressing room at half time when it became apparent that he was unable to play on.
If Real Madrid win tonight then they will secure progression to the next round. The squad for tonight’s game consists of: Casilla, Moha, Carvajal, Vallejo, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Theo, Achraf, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, M. Llorente, Asensio, Isco, Ceballos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Lucas Vázquez and Mayoral.
