Massimiliano Mirabelli, the sporting director at AC Milan, has said that his team are interested in Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata but will sign him “only on our conditions”.
Milan has already signed nine players this summer and are about to make Juventus’ centre-back Leonardo Bonucci the tenth. Nonetheless, they are determined to strengthen their attack.
Over the weekend the general manager Marco Fassone said that they were interested in Morata, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Andrea Belotti. However, it seems that Morata is now the front-runner and over the weekend reports emerged that they were close to signing a deal.
For a while it seemed that Manchester United were going to sign Morata but Jose Mourinho has declared Madrid’s price tag too high.
Mirabelli said that initially Morata was very interested in joining Milan but then “There were some complications that emerged between the final of the Champions League and when other clubs who were interested arrived so it all cooled down. It could heat up again, though, but only on our conditions.”
It has been a successful summer for Milan with Juventus’ Bonucci possibly the most impressive signing so far.
“It all happened so quickly [with Bonucci],” Mirabelli said. “We still haven’t realised it. We said ‘either we do it straight away, or we don’t do it.’ Along with [Sergio] Ramos, he is one of the best central defenders in the world, technically and in terms of his character.”
The team also persuaded goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to commit to a new contract after he had initially suggested that he was ready to leave. Mirabelli said that they “worked with Gigio’s willingness, and that of his family. They desperately wanted [to stay at] Milan, so that was the simple key to it all.”
