There are reports that Real Madrid has given Manchester United the chance to buy attacking midfielder James Rodriguez.

It is thought that Rodriguez will leave the club this summer after he became frustrated at his lack of playing time under Zinedine Zidane.

Rodriquez was signed by Real Madrid for £71 million after he helped Colombia reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. It is thought that the team want to make back most of the transfer fee that they paid three years ago but there are rumours that they would accept an offer in the region of £50 million.

Jorge Mendes is Rodriguez’s agent as well as that of Manchester Untied manager Jose Mourinho. Rodriguez’s contract with Real runs until the summer of 2020. So far he has scored 36 goals in 109 appearances for the team and he was also part of the team that won the Champions League last season.

Last month Mourinho said that he was confident that United will be able to carry out some “interesting” transfer business this coming summer. It is also thought that they are interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann if he becomes available.

Speaking last month Mourinho said, “I’m sure, at the end of the summer, probably we won’t have exactly my first options, because it’s difficult to succeed in every attempt. But I’m sure we’re going to do something interesting and something to improve our team for next season. I’m not a silly manager to say I give the names and you have to give me the players – not at all. I give the names, I give the options, I give the second options in case the first options are not possible, but I give all the information based on my analysis, my experience and projections for the future.”
