Messi hit a hat-trick as part of Barcelona’s 7 – 0 thrashing of Celtic on Tuesday evening at Camp Nou. It took him less than three minutes to score the opening goal and he scored a second before half time.
Soon after the start of the second half Neymar made it three with a free-kick, Andres then got a fourth before Messi completed his treble and Luis Suarez scored a double.
This was Messi’s record sixth treble in the Champions League and the thirty-sixth of his career. While he still trails Cristiano Ronaldo by seven goals in the competition his manager Enrique thinks that he is in a class of his own.
Speaking after the match Enrique said, “Messi plays with complete freedom and he can change his position as he wants. He’s the best in the world in every position. If he plays as a number nine, a number eight or a number six, he’s the best in the world. He can judge the perfect pass from 40 yards and put the ball wherever he wants.”
Enrique went on to describe Messi as “total football” and said that they would be “very stupid” to impose limits on him. He called Messi the “best player of all time” due to the number of goals he scores and his “footballing vision.”
Iniesta, who came off the bench to score the team’s fourth goal, said that they came into the game from a painful defeat last weekend but the team took the opportunity to turn things around from the first minute, “we were very efficient and created a lot of chances.”
