Jurgen Klopp has described Liverpool’s win over Burnley as “ugly” and said that it delighted him as the team came back to win 2 – 1.

Liverpool were defeated by Burnley earlier in the season and have lost points to Swansea, Hull and Leicester this year, all of which are teams that are currently struggling.

However, after falling behind to Ashely Barnes’ early goal the team managed to fight back and win thanks to strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can.

Klopp was the first to admit that it was “not the most memorable game in the history of Liverpool” but he was pleased with the result calling it “massive”.

After the match he said, “I thought it was our first ugly game we have won. Usually when we are not good, we lose. We are not used to it yet, so it feels a bit strange.”

He said it was an intense match that forced them to fight and he does not think it was just luck that caused the result, “It was clear we had to do a few things better in the second half, and we did. We were really in the game, we fought, took the battle and I liked that, it’s this kind of game which we haven’t won until now.”

However, he said that it took his team too long to get into their stride unlike Burnley who he described as “the most consistent team in style”.

He said that Burnley plays “how they play and are really used to it” while Liverpool “couldn’t adapt that quickly”. He admitted that Burnley were always in the game while his team failed to find the target enough and often lost second balls. Nonetheless, he says the most important thing is the three points.
