The football season came to an end on Sunday and this of course means that the summer transfer window is due to open, in fact it opens in just a few days on Friday, May 17. Here we take a look at the latest transfer news and rumours from the Premier League.

Manchester City

There is plenty of news and rumours coming out of Manchester City. After a hugely successful domestic campaign, boss Pep Guardiola will now be looking to reinforce his already excellent squad and ensure continued success next season.

One of the latest rumours is that Wilfried Zaha is on the edge of agreeing a £50 million move to Manchester City. Zaha, who is 25 years old, has been increasingly impressive at Crystal Palace and came to the attention of Guardiola. Over the weekend it was reported that Guardiola is now determined to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

There have also been reports that the team will soon be signing a £110 million double deal for Riyad Mahrez and Jorginho. Mahrez, the Leicester City winger, has been a top target for Guardiola since the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Napoli are known to be happy to sell midfielder Jorginho and it seems that City are likely to seal the deal. It was previously reported that Napoli are asking £53 million for the player and City, who have been monitoring him all season, are reportedly winning the race to sign him. However, they are thought to be facing competition from Arsenal, Manchester United, Spurs and Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola also mentioned last week that he hopes to see Raheem Sterling stay with the team for many years to come. Sterling has reportedly put contract talks with City on hold, but Guardiola said that he excepts him to remain with the club.

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is known to be very eager to sign a number of players over the coming weeks.

It was reported over the weekend that he is considering making a move for Ajax’s Justin Kluivert. Kluivert, who is just 19 years old, has been impressive throughout his first full season with Ajax and a number of European teams have been watching him. However, Mouinho is thought to be trying to get ahead of the competition and is expected to make a bid as soon as the transfer window opens.

Mourinho is also thought to be hoping to bring Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann to Old Trafford in a player plus cash agreement. The team are thought to be prepared to pay €100 million for Griezmann and also offer one of their own players.

United are also preparing for a battle with Liverpool for the signing of Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. Mouinho is reportedly a huge fan of the 26 year old and thinks that he would integrate easily with the team.

On Sunday morning it was reported that United are also keen to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar. They of course face competition from a number of top teams, but they have made it clear that they will match any offer that PSG receives for the player. It is though that PSG are asking for around £200 million.

United are also known to be interested in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon. Fulham have set a price of £100 million on the player who has impressed all year and was also named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year. Spurs are also thought to be interested.

In other news Mourinho is also thought to be keeping a close eye on players including Fred, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Marco Verratti, Jean-Michael Seri and Arturo Vidal. With such ambitious plans for the summer it has been reported that Mourinho is willing to drastically reduce the team’s wage bill in order to fund a transfer kitty of £150 million. If true, it means that players such as Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian may all be offloaded.

With Arsenal getting a new manager in the very near future it is not clear exactly what changes may be coming, only that they certainly are. However, this doesn’t mean that there haven’t been plenty of rumours surrounding the Gunners’ summer plans.

First off, it seems that the team may have the chance to sign Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. Former Arsenal player Robert Pires has said that he expects his fellow Frenchman to be open to a move this summer. Arsene Wenger tried to sign the France international back in 2017 but had his approaches knocked back.

The team will also be making a move for the Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic according to reports last week. Zivkovic, 21 years old, has a £53 million release clause in his contract through to 2021, however, Arsenal have been watching him all season and are highly impressed.

In terms of players that the Gunners may lose, Lazio are known to be eager to sign Lucas Perez from Arsenal to replace Nani. Nani has had a very limited role at the club since he joined on loan, but he will be returning to Valencia next season. This leaves Lazio needing another winger and they think that Perez, who has been on loan at Deportivo, would be a suitable affordable option.

Chelsea have had a slightly disappointing season and will be looking to improve over the summer to try to be more of a force next season. As a result, Antonio Conte is certain to make some major signings in the coming months.

The team are known to be eager to sign the Atalanta striker Musa Barrow. The 19 year old has had an excellent season and is seen by many as one of the most exciting talents in Italian football. As a result, there is sure to be tough competition for his signature with teams such as Juventus and Borussia Dortmund having also expressed an interest.

Chelsea is also thought to be eager to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid. There were even reports that they would be willing to swap N’Golo Kante for the player. It is known that Roman Abramovich is determined to bring over Asensio and he will likely do everything he possibly can to sign him. Originally Madrid were thought to be interested in Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, but now they are thought to be focusing on Neymar so Chelsea will be offering Kante instead.

Liverpool have enjoyed a great season under Jugen Klopp and at the moment will primarily focused on the Champions League final later this month. However, there are still plenty of reports around about potential transfers.

The team are one of many Premier League clubs known to be eager to sign Bordeaux attacker Malcom. The 21 year old Brazilian joins a number of other attackers that Liverpool are thought to be interested in including Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic and Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey. Bordeaux are asking for a fee of around £40 million for the player and Liverpool will be facing domestic competition from Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Liverpool are also expected to be in a battle with Arsenal to sign Alex McCarthy from Southampton. Scouts from both teams have been watching him play this season and Klopp is keen to sign a new goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet potentially leaving the team.

The club have also been linked with a surprise move for Pepe Reina, the former Spanish international who has played close to 400 games for Liverpool. Reina, 35, is currently at Napoli, but it is thought that Liverpool are keen to bring him back to help a more inexperienced goalkeeper develop. Their top target was Roma’s Alisson, but he is likely to be more than the team can afford.

There have also been plenty of rumours surrounding star player Mohamed Salah. Real Madrid are keen to sign him and there have been mixed reports about Salah’s feelings. Last week it was reported that he was happy at Liverpool but over the weekend it was said that he has issued a set of demands to Real Madrid including a massive pay rise. This is a story that is likely to develop over the coming months.

The weekend saw a great deal of discussion regarding a potential move by Wayne Rooney to the MLS’ D.C. United. According to the American press, if he makes the move he will become one of the league’s best paid players. It is though that he would anywhere between $5 million and $8 million a season, at present the top earner is Sebastian Giovinco who makes $7.1 million per season.

The basics of the deal have already been agreed between Rooney and the club, but they still need to hammer out incentives and a transfer fee with Everton. Furthermore, it is thought that teams from the Chinese Super League may also make a bid.
