Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani have both said that they are hoping their Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar will win the Ballon d’Or.
All three players are on the shortlist for the prestigious award. Cavani and Neymar had a very public argument over who would take a free kick and penalty in a recent game, but Cavani insists that everything has been sorted out and that he hopes his teammate will win the prize.
Talking to Ovacion Cavani said, “I spoke with him and told him what I thought, but they’re things that stay in the dressing room. I’m not going to tell you what we said to each other … I have said several times I want him to have the Ballon d’Or because if that happens it means he’ll have scored lots of goals and he’ll have helped us win things. And what I want is to win things, that’s what interests me.”
Neymar has had a good start to his season with PSG, scoring six goals and providing five assists in just six Ligue 1 appearances. He has also helped the team to achieve a perfect start to their Champions League campaign.
Mbappe has also spoken about his desire to see Neymar win the Ballon d’Or. He recently said that he is there to “help” Neymar win it and he is confident that Neymar will help the team to Champions League success.
Speaking to France Football Mbappe said, “I do not see myself in competition with my teammates. Today, Neymar is our best player. Therefore, it is him at PSG who stands the best chance of winning soon. I am here to help him and I will do everything to make sure that he gets there because he is very close to winning this award. He will also help us to win the Champions League.”
