Despite Leicester City’s 5 – 0 thrashing by Porto last week Claudio Ranieri has insisted that he doesn’t regret making 10 changes to his team.

The team had already guaranteed finishing top of the group so Ranieri gave some of his fringe players a chance to impress. However, the move backfired and the team suffered a humiliating defeat with the score line being the biggest margin of defeat by an English side in the Champions League and European Cup history.

Porto saw Andre Silva score twice while Jesus Corona, Yacine Brahimi and Diogo Jota all scored as well. However, Ranieri is adamant that he would do the same again.

Speaking about the game he said, “I have no regrets because I wanted to give an opportunity to all my players. If I needed to win or draw, I would bring all my first team to fight.”

He said that we was thinking about yesterday’s encounter with Manchester City and wanted to rest his best players. He also said that it is a good thing to give the other players a chance and give them the opportunity to prove themselves.

As a result he said, “The result is my fault but they missed a great chance.”

Porto needed the win to ensure their own progression to the last 16 and luckily for them that proved to be a very easy task. Even Ranieri said that “it was too easy for Porto” but said that it gave him a “very clear idea about everybody”.

He went on to say that it is ok to lose “but not in this way” and said that his players “lost a very great chance to show me their best.” None the less he said that now “we have to stay together and think about the Premier League.”
