Leicester City’s surprising success this season has long been the subject of headlines but it seems it all became a bit too much for the Italian Manager Claudio Ranieri when his team secured a victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend.
Ranieri left the pitch in tears following his team’s 0 – 2 victory to send them 10 points clear at the top of the table before Tottenham’s win over Manchester United. Furthermore, Tottenham’s victory now means that Leicester City is guaranteed at least a fourth place finish in the league which secures them Champions League football next season.
At least 4th place GUARANTEED!

The two goals both came from Jamie Vardy and the relief was clear in Ranieri’s face. He took to the pitch at the final whistle to congratulate his players with the tears clear on his face. After the game he said that “it’s amazing” and went on to thanks all the fans for their support saying that “nobody could have believed we would be in this position”.
Vardy will also be celebrating after his two goals took him second in the Premier League’s top goal scorer standings and he was also personally congratulated by Ranieri.
While Leicester is still not mathematically guaranteed to win the title they certainly have a huge amount of support. Graeme Souness said that it is “the most wonderful thing for football” while Jose Mourinho said that Ranieri deserves the win.
Furthermore, bookmakers are already paying out as if Leicester has won the title leaving many punters thousands of pounds better off.
The team still has a few tough matches ahead including against Manchester United and Chelsea. However, if they can stay on track and do indeed lift the title then all eyes are sure to be on Ranieri to see his undoubtedly emotional reaction.
