The AC Milan midfielder Suso has said that he turned down the chance to join a club that can guarantee him Champion League football as he would prefer a longer stay with Milan.

Suso joined AC Milan in 2015 but spent the first six months of 2016 on loan to Genoa. However, he is now hoping to sign a new contract with the San Sire club.

He claims that he has been waiting since December to finalise a deal and in the meantime he has received a number of attract offers to leave Milan.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia he said, “First of all I would like to thank the fans for their many messages. I would like to let them know that we had an agreement in December and I have been waiting since. I spoke with [Milan general manager Marco] Fassone back then and he told me that there was no problem. I’m just waiting and continue to wait. They have my number and that of my agent. I’ve had three offers from clubs in the Champions League, but I want to stay here.”

It is thought that Tottenham Hotspur is one of the three clubs but Suso insists that he wants to stay in Milan.

The club have spent €99 million on new players already this summer and is expected to sign several more before the end of the transfer window.

After qualifying for the Europa League last season following three years out of European football, the team are now determined to return to the Champions League and this is what is attracting Suso to the club.

“The club are doing a great job, building a great side to stay at the top,” the 23-year-old said. “We need to take it slowly to try to get back into the Champions League.”
