Arjen Robben, the Bayern Munich winger, has returned to training this week after recovering from a calf injury and he may even feature against Liverpool in the Audi Cup later today.
Robben missed the team’s 12-day tour of China and Singapore while he recovered from the injury. Speaking to Kicker he said, “I’m doing well so far. I’ve still got almost three weeks until the opening Bundesliga game. I am making good progress and increasing my training load gradually.”
Robben isn’t the only player to have recovered from injury in the last few days. Thiago Alcantara had to fly home from the tour with a calf problem but also returned to training on Sunday and Jerome Boateng has also returned to training after a thigh problem.
On the other hand Franck Ribery is still in doubt after he picked up an ankle injury in last Thursday’s 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan.
Meanwhile Carlo Ancelotti has welcomed the new players Niklas Sule and Sebastian Rudy to the team and said he expects a “fantastic season” from the new signings.
“We are sure that they are going to improve our squad and increase competition in defence and midfield,” he said.
“They are both young players with a lot of quality and self-confidence. They showed their exemplary attitude last season with Hoffenheim. I am sure they are going to have a fantastic season.”
He described Sule as a “fantastic” central defender but warned that he will have to fight for his place as the team also has Mats Hummels, Boateng and Javi Martinez on hand.
Rudy will be facing competition from Arturo Vidal, Renato Sanches and Corentin Tolisso but says he will fight for his place as right-back.
Ancelotti also said that the new arrivals could feature in the Audi Cup this week despite having only just arrived at training.
